Overview

Velocity Staff, Inc. is working with our client located in Savannah, GA to identify a Senior AIX/VIO Server Administrator for a full-time, permanent opportunity. This is a REMOTE position. The Senior AIX/VIO Server Administrator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and patching of the AIX server infrastructure as well as collaborate with other team members to help develop automation strategies and deployment documented processes.

Responsibilities

 

  • Perform installs, tests, and maintains AIX/VIO Server environment and supported software systems.
  • Collects and assesses information from the user community in software and hardware problem resolution.
  • Defining and tracking metrics and key performance indicators to raise the bar in team performance and customer service.
  • Reduce errors working with the other AIX administrators through process improvement and root cause analysis.
  • Candidate will provide support for OS-related issues and assist with RCA (Root Cause Analysis) analysis for OS (Operating System) issues and product related issues.
  • Produce support documentation on demand and periodically with the Manager of Infrastructure Services and others.
  • Help tune performance and ensure high availability of infrastructure.
  • Assist with designing and developing infrastructure monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Assist developing and maintaining configuration management solutions.
  • Assist developing test automation frameworks in collaboration with rest of the AIX team.
  • Drive to meet or exceed organizational goals for quality, cost per contact, customer satisfaction, first contact resolution and service availability.
  • Participate in engagements that have a strong business & technology focus.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills to provide onsite technical support focusing on strong listening skills to gain an accurate understanding of the situation, displaying a sense of urgency to resolve customer issues.
  • Ensure root cause analysis is performed in accordance with client policies and standards.
  • Produce accurate documentation at the client and incident level.
  • Constantly drive for process improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or technology related field preferred.

  • 6+ years of experience providing AIX administration support and senior-level server configuration support required.

  • Experience with Unix/AIX servers in virtualized environments.

  • Experience with AIX high availability technologies (PowerHA).

  • VIO-Experience managing disk resource (logical and virtual method) to the VIO client LPAR’s (assigning disks, creating volume groups/logical volumes, mapping them, etc.)

  • NPIV virtualization experience.

  • Experience building VIO servers would be helpful but not required.

  • Experience with building the VIO clients (defining the VIO client LPAR, creating VIO server disk resources, editing the VIO client LPAR’s, defining the virtual SCSI disk maps, defining the virtual FC maps, and activating the client LPAR’s).

  • Strong software and hardware configuration experience (LPAR’s, DLPARS, and VIO) and installation, upgrade, fixes, and patches experience as well.

  • Experience with dual VIO’s along with partitions created using NPIV would be helpful.
