Overview

Velocity Staff, Inc. is working with our client located in Overland Park, KS to identify a Linux System Administrator for a 3 month contract to hire opportunity. 

Responsibilities

The Linux System Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions by effectively leveraging all networked software and associated operating systems throughout the lifecycle (Analysis, Design, Build, Test, Operate, and Retirement). The Systems Administrator will apply proven communication, systems engineering, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of technology investments.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide 24 by 7 technical support, issue analysis, and problem resolution on a rotating basis for support incidents generated via monitoring, scheduled operations, and/or support escalation from corporate or support organizations.
  • Perform day to day monitoring, maintenance, and operational support for in-house information systems.

  • Manage, maintain, and administer information system configuration management systems.
  • Support standard system image builds and patch processes in accordance with established Change Management and IT General Controls.
  • Perform configuration of servers, storage, and related systems components.

  • Coordinate installation of equipment at data center and remote locations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Two-year or Four-year information systems management degree, work in progress toward a degree, or equivalent work experience required.
  • 3 years’ work experience in Linux Systems Administration or a similar role.
  • Proficient in Red Hat (or equivalent) Linux System Administration.
  • Basic shell scripting and administration automation.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Knowledge of Linux security and hardening techniques.
  • Knowledge of DNS, NFS, IP configurations, and management/configuration of Linux networking services.
  • Experience in monitoring, configuration, and management of information technologies.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting medium to large scale, multi-site, enterprise environments.
  • Prior experience with Oracle ERP and Business Analytics environment preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent technical support documentation skills.
  • Ability to independently conduct research to resolve systems issues and to develop courses of action for problem resolution.
  • Able to work periodically on-call and outside of normal business hours.
