  • Overview

    Velocity Staff, Inc. is currently working with our client located in downtown Kansas City, MO to identify a Transmission Service Engineer to join their team on a 12+ month contract. The Transmission Service Engineer will be responsible for the design and management of multiple year and short range transmission line engineering projects as well as support field design, field construction and the installation of the electric utility system.

    Responsibilities

    • Understand the operations of the electric utility as it pertains to T&D company policies and procedures.
    • Working knowledge of current NESC especially Parts 2, 3, and 4.
    • Knowledge of the computer software applications for Microsoft Office and engineering software, Auto-Cad, PLS-CADD (3 years min), SAG-TEN, EPRI TLW/TFLASH/ENVIRO, IEEE 738) and others as pertains to the transmission line engineering functions. Complete understanding of schematics and connection diagrams associated with the entire transmission electrical system, including distribution, substation and generation.
    • Able to respond to multiple demands and rapidly changing priorities.
    • Communicate effectively with a strong focus on external customer contacts.
    • Continuously looking for effective methods to enhance the system.
    • Coordinate Company-wide communication tower/antenna attachments to Transmission assets.
    • Provide support to internal and external customers.
    • Diverse, flexible and can take on many different roles.
    • Experience in legal testimony and private easement negotiations, and other Transmission, Distribution, and Power Production areas.
    • Investigate and evaluate new ideas, methods and technologies related to delivery system construction, maintenance and operation and recommends improvements.
    • Promote the visibility and technical leadership of the organization throughout the industry by actively participating on committees and working groups in trade organizations such as EEI, EPRI, IEEE, and SPP. 

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a 4-year accredited university is required.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) License, MBA or Masters in Engineering, or Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years electric utility experience is required, preferably in the design, construction and operations area, with at least 5 years in transmission line design.
    • Effective leadership, interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and project management skills.
    • Ability to work with others in a team environment and influence work processes across organizational boundaries.
    • Strong analytical skills for development of engineering plans and recommendations.
