Overview

Velocity Staff, Inc. is seeking a dynamic Data Architect for a contract to hire or permanent placement opportunity with our client in Mission, Kansas.  The right candidate will be responsible for implementing and evangelizing the vision and strategies necessary to create and mature the company's Data Management and Analytics capabilities. This individual will also be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the use of standards and procedures.

  • The Data Architect must have a good working knowledge of different types of philosophies when it comes to architecture, design and development of data ecosystems to support reporting, data warehousing, advanced analytics and AI. The Data Architect must have a proven history (through successful and failed endeavors) with enterprise level database management, ETL packages, data services and best practices including architecture competency with relational models and presentation layers. Must be proficient in performance and security standards along with working knowledge of typical DB Administration duties. (Functions, procedures, and monitoring development tasks) Working knowledge of Data Quality/Cleansing and Master Data Management processes and procedures is preferred. The Data Architect serves as a senior leader to the software engineering team.  
  • Works with various technical resources across the team to facilitate the development of technical standards. Must have the communication skills and ability to develop and present solutions to all levels of management, including executive levels. The Data Architect participates in requirements gathering, discovery, and interfacing with technical and business teams -- establishing credibility regarding experience, presentation, and leadership of solutions development. The Data Architect evaluates proposed new systems and system changes and additions, provides oversight into the decision process and participates in project implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development of the database and data warehousing system vision and strategy of the organization; leads the development, implementation, communication, and promotion of strategic and tactical plans for all data related systems. Researches and participates in beta testing of new systems and technologies to better evaluate their suitability to the environment.
  • Evaluates proposed data system acquisitions and provides critical input to the decision-making process relative to compatibility, cost, resource requirements, operations, and maintenance; develops plans and recommendations to improve the performance and efficiency of assigned data systems
  • Integrates system components, subsystems, facilities, and services into the existing technical systems environment; assesses impact on other systems, and works with IT resources to ensure a positive impact; installs, configures, and verifies the operation of system components as needed for database solutions; improves integration and operation of systems relative to the overall environment; participates as team member in cross-system projects.
  • Participates in the development of standards, design, and implementation of proactive processes to collect and report data and statistics on assigned systems; performs research and testing to verify impact and advisability of system installations; assists in development vendor support relationships
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge and current certification in various areas of information technology.
  • Fulfills role as a core technical leader of R&D team; adheres to all policies and procedures, especially those relating to Change Control, Problem Management, and Project Management; provide input to improve processes to ensure highest levels of service and availability of systems.
  • Engage in hands on development when needed to help database developers get solutions across the line on time and on budget.
  • Task and assign daily work to database developers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, related discipline, or equivalent experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in a data analysis and architecture in a multi-faceted, fast paced work environment

  • Healthcare data experience is highly preferred

  • Experience in one or more Data Modeling and Business Intelligence tools

  • Experience with Data Visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI

  • Experience in Data Mining using R, SAS, or other analytics software

  • Knowledge of a data lake ecosystem, such Hadoop, Spark, MPP databases

  • Hands on experience with AWS cloud data analytics services

  • Hands-on experience with relational and dimensional modeling practices

  • Advanced SQL skills

  • Background or familiarity with Data Governance, Metadata Management, Taxonomy Management, Master Data Management and Data Security

  • Expertise in Data Warehouse design and best practices
